Review of Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi’s first episode: A solid start!

Ari Digital premiered the first episode of its newly launched drama series, Kesi Teri Khudgarzi. The story revolves around class differences, toxic and obsessive love, and powerfully portrays independent behaviour. Written by Rudin Shah, known for the critically acclaimed show “Meri Guriya,” and directed by Ahmed Bhatti, “Kisi Teri Khudgarzi” stars Danish Taimur, Dur Fashan, Noman Ijaz, Hamad Shoaib, Shahood Alvi, Laila Wasti, and others.

The narrative introduces us to a luxurious and loving family with two daughters, Mehek and Nida, a caring mother, and a supportive father. Their parents want them to be strong, independent women. Mehek, who is engaged to her cousin Ahsan, hails from a middle-class background. However, their lives take a tragic turn when Mahek and his father unexpectedly cross paths with a sword.

The performances in the drama are undoubtedly superb, capturing the essence of the characters. While the dialogue is sparkling in most instances, some of the exchanges between the sisters come off as clichés. The depiction of the sword effectively embodies a totalitarian figure, while the street scene evokes memories of real-life events. Danish Taimur delivered a brilliant performance, immersing himself in his role with ease. Although reminiscent of his previous role in “Ishq Hai”, he brings a new look and a dedicated style to his portrayal.

Another notable example of dictatorship and feudalism is the character of Numan Ijaz, a ruthless feudal lord who wields absolute power, depriving the people of their properties and rights. This image resonates with the feudal mentality prevalent in our society. The manner in which the landlord seizes the hotel property, offers meagre compensation, and even cancels the promised payment shows his merciless nature.

Shamsheer, a spoiled and wealthy individual, enjoys drugs and powering others. However, when he points a gun at Mehek’s father and she intervenes, pleading for her father’s life, he is smitten. Mehek’s video goes viral, yet surprisingly it doesn’t affect him or his family, which seems odd. Shamsher finds out through the video and boldly goes to Mehek’s house with his bodyguards. To her surprise, she is confronted by her father, the same man she threatened at gunpoint a few days earlier. A really promising start!
